SE-Village @ The Peckham Settlement

Just another site

The News is OUT!

with one comment

SE-Village has officially begun and we haven’t even told people yet!

Slowly over the last few months we have been talking to local contacts, when we got the new website up and running, the branding for SE-Village got added to it and then there was the NESTA launch. Small steps, meaning to test the waters and have something to start with. Already we have had countless local groups or individuals who want to start their own clubs. We have business ideas and neighbourhood projects coming out of our ears!! I think the problem is not going to be in developing social capital but in facilitating it.

Excuse me for putting a good spin on worklessness and the recession and on the cuts that seem to be affecting our most vulnerable, but so far many people that have come to us have said that this is an extra while they look for a job, or now that they have the free time, or if they can’t get a job they at least want to give back somehow, being worthwhile.

If in this time of doubt and uncertainty we can facilitate the belonging of community, then SE-Village is already doing its job!

We are doing the first few events in the next month to keep working alongside the people who have already heard about the new plans and start to get the news out ‘officially’!
